Allergic encephalitis with gelastic status epilepticus induced by wasp sting
نویسندگان
چکیده
Wasp stings are ubiquitous worldwide and generally cause self-limiting local reaction. Occasionally more serious systemic reactions such as anaphylaxis, rhabdomyolysis, and intravascular hemolysis may occur, especially with multiple stings. Although exceedingly rare, neurologic complications of the wasp sting have been described. We report a case of allergic encephalitis with gelastic status epilepticus (SE) due to a delayed reaction to the wasp venom.

Wasp stings (Vespa affinis) induced acute kidney injury following rhabdomyolysis in a 25-year-old woman.
Wasp sting is a relatively common arthropod assault. This usually results in pain and mild allergic reactions, but sometimes may cause severe systemic reaction and multiorgan dysfunction including rhabdomyolysis, hemolysis, coagulopathy, hepatic, renal and cardiac complications. Along with several other pathomechanisms, rhabdomyolysis is a distinguished cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) in pa...

متن کاملWasp venom is appropriate for immunotherapy of patients with allergic reaction to the European hornet sting.
AIM To identify whether it is the yellow jacket (Vespula germanica) or European hornet (Vespa crabro) venom that induces sensitization in patients with IgE-mediated allergic reaction to the venom from the sting of a European hornet. Since these patients usually have positive skin tests and specific IgE to all vespid venoms, it would be useful to distinguish cross-reactors from non-cross-reactor...
متن کاملAcute Kidney Injury Following Rhabdomyolysis due to Multiple Wasp Stings (Vespa affinis)
Background: Wasp stings are quite commonly observed in Bangladesh though they are under reported. However, rhabdomyolysis following multiple wasp stings is a rare entity. Case report: A middle aged physician was stung by a swarm of wasps at multiple sites of the body. He felt severe pain at the sites of the stings and was primarily treated with intravenous hydrocortisone and chlorpheniramine. W...
متن کاملWho coined the term “status gelasticus”? We did
In a recent review article on gelastic seizures and hypothalamic hamartoma, Tellez-Zenteno and colleagues 1 used the term, " status gelasticus " mostly correctly but referenced completely incorrectly the origins of the definition of this rare but becoming increasingly known phenomenon. This mistake followed upon an unusual oversight of quoting another author who had simply used the term and mos...
